My name is Martha Robertson, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, and certified in Hypnotherapies. By professional definition, chemical dependency is a chronic disease, treatable but lingering. Prevention is only one measure of treatment, and the cycle of treatment, beyond abstinence, must also include elements of service for relapse. Over 20 million Americans fall into one or more categories of chemical dependency.
Since completing my Master of Science Degree with a counseling major, from Texas A&M in Commerce Texas I have worked with a multitude of individuals with mental health conditions.
My experience in working with children and adults, individual, groups and couples from a multitude of environments such as Nursing Homes, the Criminal Justice System, the Mental Health System, and Private Practice has afforded me the opportunity to work directly with Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar Disorder and Personality Disorder of all types.
My job as a counselor is very much like that of a GPS system. Everyone is on a journey though life, my job is to help them figure how where they are on that journey and where they want to go. By using my acquired skills, education and experience to give them some directions that may make their journey easier.
I love old sayings, simple pearls of wisdom that at times helps you focus on the solution instead of the problem. One such saying is the journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. I have changed that to fit the counseling process too often time the journey to healing begins with the first thought being changed from negative to positive.
I am is what is called in my field is called a Eclectic style counselor which means I use whatever theory fits the problem we are working on and what style works best with the person I am working with. I believe that most problems are three fold often, irrational thinking, emotions that are not being handle in a healthy manner, and spiritual issue. I am not a religious counselor but do address spiritual issues if that is part of what is affecting your joy on your life path.
